Dreamweaver Stencils- LL518 Butterfly stencil, LG642 Leaf Stencil, and LJ890 Swirl stencil
Palette-DecoArt Americana acrylic paints- Arbor Green, Blue Chiffon, Cadmium Red, Coral Blush, Coral Shell, Heritage Brick, Hi-Lite Flesh, Lamp Black, Light Buttermilk, Mint Julep Green, Salem Blue, Spa Blue, Victorian Blue
Dreamweaver stencil brushes, flats, #3 round, and #00 liner.
Viking Woodcrafts, Inc ,8″ square wood canvas
Faber Castell- Artist Pitt Pen XS, Black
Prepare the wood canvas with sealer, sand lightly, then wipe with dampened cheese cloth. Basecoat the entire canvas with Blue Chiffon.
Tape the Swirl stencil in the upper right hand corner of the canvas. Using a stencil brush add swirls with Light Buttermilk using a drybrush technique. Lift off and repeat over entire canvas. Tape off the butterfly stencil to isolate an individual butterfly, tape into position and drybrush with Spa Blue + Salem Blue (1:1). Using the Leaf stencil, drybrush the darker leaves with Mint Julep Green + Arbor Green (2:1) in corners and the lighter leaves with Mint Julep Green in body and sides of canvas.
Place bird stamp onto acrylic handle and stamp with Lamp Black. Wash over blue areas of the bird with Salem Blue and coral areas with Coral Blush. Add texture while shading and highlighting by pulling lines of Salem Blue, Salem Blue + Spa Blue (1:1), and Spa Blue from dark to light. Float to shade additional darks with Victorian Blue.
In the coral areas add lines from dark to light with Coral Blush, Coral Shell, and Hi-Lite Flesh. Glaze the shadows with Neutral Grey + Coral Blush (1:1). The beak is based with Neutral Grey + Coral Blush (1:1). The legs are washes with Neutral Grey.
Apply the flowers on an acrylic handle and stamps with Coral Blush.
Wash them with thinned Coral Shell. Float to shade with Coral Blush and highlight with Hi-Lite Flesh. Float a second shade with Coral Blush + Cadmium Red (1:1) and a second highlight with Light Buttermilk. Glaze the last shade with Cadmium Red + Heritage Brick (2:1).
Mask flowers using the mask provided with the stamps then stamp the branches with Black. Wash with thinned Neutral Grey + Coral Blush (1:1). Float to shade with Neutral Grey.
Leave the masks on the flowers and stamp the leaves with Mint Julep Green + Arbor Green (2:1). Wash with the same color. Float to shade with Arbor Green. Float to highlight with Mint Julep Green and then Mint Julep Green + Light Buttermilk (1:1) If necessary, add additional lines to the leaves with a XS Faber Castell Artist Pitt Pen.
